Christos Yerolatsitis Trio

Christos Yerolatsitis Trio „Daydreaming”

Before we put this CD into the player, the album cover speaks to us suggestively. A beautiful, black and white photo that radiates warmth and peace. It doesn’t impose itself, but when you look at it, it captures your attention, prompting you to sharpen your gaze. Late summer, or perhaps early autumn? The leaves falling from the trees reflectively set the mood. Or maybe it is just the overexposure visible in the photo? Surrounded by nature, the artist stands, partly in the sun, partly hidden in the shade. There is a certain mystery in all this. When we press 'play’, time stops.

This music is a celebration of everyday life and the attitude of an artist who does not want to and does not have to prove anything, but rather wants to show himself, his sensitivity. The title is significant, a moment of dreamy reverie, a suspension between sleep and reality. The past mingles with the present, snapshots of places, people, events. Like in old black and white photographs. Images, tastes, scents that are difficult to capture, and at the same time so suggestive, return. The beauty of this experience blends with sadness and longing. Everyday life filled with light and shadow.

This is exactly what Christos Yerolatsitis’ music is like, warm, unhurried, delicate, full of details that force you to sharpen your hearing, but above all to stop, to be here and now. Modern jazz mixed with that characteristic Mediterranean aura that can be heard in the harmony and sound. Beautiful, but not overly sweet snapshots of life, longing for what was, but also a strong anchoring in the present, which emanates the experience gained and the awareness of the road traveled.

The carefreeness in “Memories”, the warmth and sincerity in the title track mix with the ambiguity in “Untold”. This is a three-part, most complex and slightly avant-garde piece, with a touch of anxiety, but also repetitive, trance moments. There is both dissonance and a much stronger bass line, on which the guest, saxophonist David Lynch, stands out. Light and shadows, which you can listen to for a long time.

Listen.
